THE METHOD OF BIODEGRADABLE TEXTILE BAND MANUFACTURING CONSISTS IN THE SELECTION OF NONWOVEN WITH AN APPROPRIATE SURFACE MASS AND NUMBER OF NEEDLINGS, WHICH IS THEN CUT WITH SPECIALIST EQUIPMENT INTO BANDS OF AN APPROPRIATE WIDTH AND LENGTH, WHICH DEPEND ON PLANT POT SIZES. THE SURFACE MASS OF THE NONWOVEN WITH REINFORCING NET SHOULD EQUAL 800 +/- 50 G/M2 AT 40-50/CM2 NEEDLINGS.

Due to its spatial structure, the textile band allows perfect penetration of air into the seedling root system. The appropriate structure of the nonwoven also enables easy growth of roots into the band wall. Additionally, the nonwoven structure allows containment of a significant amount of water indispensable for the seedling growth and development. Application of biodegradable
textile ‘pots’ brings about both tangible and intangible economic results.

Tangible effects include:
• lowering labour intensity in seedling growth and nursing,
• no plastic waste generation (plastic pots and bands) and no waste management is required,
• simple and convenient process of planting into the soil,
• lower cost of the textile band manufacture in comparison with a plastic pot.
