THE NECCESSITY TO DETERMINE THE NARCOTIC POTENTIAL OF INDUSTRIAL HEMP GENOTYPES HAS LED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SIMPLE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE DIAGNOSTIC METHOD HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THCA SYNTHASE GENE POLYMORPHISM, WHICH ENABLES INDICATION OF HEMP GENOTYPES WITHOUT NARCOTIC POTENTIAL.

The analysis relates to polymorphism of the THCA synthase gene, which is the key enzyme in the Δ9-THC pathway. The determination of hemp genotype belonging to varieties that do not synthesise THCA is based on the absence of the amplification product of a gene fragment in PCR reaction. The developed method is characterised primarily by the short period of time needed to obtain results. Additionally, it enables testing of the plant at every stage of its development. The method may contribute to improving works on breeding industrial hemp varieties with low THC content.

Agriculture. The analysis of the polymorphism of the THCA synthase
gene creates an opportunity to perform a simple diagnostic test enabling
attribution of the tested plant to either the fibre or narcotic hemp type.
